Martin Essl, born in 1980 in Upper Styria, started his professional career – after studying telecommunications technology and systems at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences – at SIEMENS in Germany. From there he went to Beijing, where he worked for Sony, after that Taiwan and then into the startup industry in San Francisco. After four years at Twitter, he moved to Uber as head of Mobile Business Development & Partnerships in 2015.
After working 16 years abroad, Martin Essl returned to Austria in 2018 as Head of Austria for Uber. In his role he acts as first contact for partners, authorities, the media and other stakeholders.
